Desert Chamber Orchestra was founded in February 2012 by former Coachella Valley Symphony & Buddy Rogers Youth Symphony conductor, Christian Chalifour.
Our volunteer musicians come from all over our Coachella Valley and beyond, united on Tuesday nights by a common love for great music-making, in a relaxed and friendly environment. We work hard, but we also like to have fun! And while much of what we play is "serious music" we try not to take ourselves too seriously.
In addition to our regular Desert Chamber Orchestra series concerts, we also offer "mini-concerts" around our desert cities, for senior centers, retirement communities, churches, schools, and other venues.
Guest artists in recent years have included Los Angeles Philharmonic Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour, LA Opera Principal Cellist John Walz, harpist Vanessa Sheldon, and classical guitar virtuoso Lawrence Spector. In October 2014, Desert Chamber Orchestra joined forces with California Ballet Opera, collaborating on a production of "A Swingin' Nutcracker" mixing Tchaikovsky's original score with the Duke Ellington charts from the 1940's.
We also offer encouragement and opportunities for our young beginning, intermediate, and advanced student musicians through our educational outreach program, and our annual "Free Family Fun Concert & Instrument Petting Zoo" every April.

It's always an honor and extreme pleasure to host these three amazingly gifted solo guest artists to our DCO stage. From left is Los Angeles Philharmonic Principal Concertmaster, Martin Chalifour, Guitar Virtuoso/Composer, Lawrence Spector, and LA Opera Principal Cellist, John Walz.
